Grand Rapids Meets Detroit: Senior Portrait Session

It’s hard to believe that I’ve known Rachel - I know her as Oona because she was a dance student at 61Syx Street Dance Academy - since she was 8 and now she’s finally a senior. In typical fashion, we decided we didn’t want to do the usual for senior portraits and decided to head out to Detroit to photograph her senior portraits.

She’s a unique gal so Detroit seemed like a great fit. Naturally, we started at Madcap Coffee - a Grand Rapids Coffee gem - that also happens to have a Detroit location. We took a few photos infront of the Shinola hotel and around that area.

Then we went to the Alley where the area was filled with amazing artwork and murals - specificially this parking garage that was color coded for each level. There were 10 different floors with 10 different colors.

We finished up her session at the Detroit Institute of Arts. We had to race against the storm that was coming in QUICK. Of course, it down poured but it stopped momentarily and we took full advantage to snap some shots before we wrapped up her session and grabbed dinner.

We ended up grabbing dinner at Ima in Detroit for a hot bowl of Udon and we ca’t recommend it enough. Which photo or location is your favorite?
