Unscripted Documentary-style Family Session

The beauty of a documentary and candid family session lies in its ability to freeze time, forever preserving the genuine and authentic connections within a family. It's capturing those unposed, unfiltered moments that often go unnoticed in the chaos of everyday life.

Photography has the means to allow us to dig a little deeper. Dig into the essence of time and capture fleeting moments that hold immense emotional significance to us. The saying goes, “You don’t know what you got till it’s gone.” Ask any parent. They will tell you how quickly time flies. So, it’s important to capture and share your family’s unique dynamics, unspoken love, and the profound stories that binds you all together.

During the peak Michigan fall scenery, nature itself unravels its captivating beauty, providing an exquisite backdrop for the Kail’s family session. The vibrant colors of the foliage, the crispness in the air, and the gentle caress of the autumn breeze create a stunning backdrop where each shot radiates an ethereal timelessness, perfect for this style of portraiture.

What makes these sessions truly special is the inclusivity they embody. Photography has always been associated with exclusive moments, something reserved for milestones or special occasions. But with documentary and candid family trending, these sessions mean anyone and everyone can be a part of it.

We don’t have to define the significance of these moments by traditional standards. Instead, it is the emotions captured visually that take center stage.

There is power in observation, the significance of patience, and the art of noticing while allowing moments to unfold naturally. Life can feel so rushed but it is important to take the time to slow down to enjoy each other’s company.

I want families to look back at these images years from now and be transported back to that very moment, reliving the love, happiness, and togetherness they shared. I want it to visually represent them as they are, not forced poses and smiles.

Sometimes, I notice families dreading family sessions because it can be overwhelming and feel “fake”. I know we’re so used to wanting the “perfect” photo but I think it’s more about capturing the essence of humanity, the core of relationships, and the magic of genuine connections. It's about embracing imperfections, embracing vulnerability, and cherishing the beauty that lies within the unscripted.

So everyone can have photographs that they deeply resonate with and treasured for generations to come.
