Getting Creative in a Grocery Store + Wei Wei Palace

Wei Wei Palace is a hidden gem in Wyoming, MI. For my dim sum lovers, this is most likely the only spot you’ll be able to get some Shumai in Grand Rapids.

I took my friends Ashley and Abby for their very first visit to Wei Wei ever and we ordered family style so they could sample Wei Wei’s giant menu. I got them several different types of dim sum, my favorite tofu dish EVER, egg rolls, Chinese broccoli, and my favorite style of calamari ever.

Needless to say, we cannot wait for Wei Wei to reopen after quarantine so we can enjoy this feast all over again. It’s definitely one of my favorite places to take different groups of friends. If you haven’t been, add Wei Wei to you food bucket list and I’ll tell you what you should order.

After we ate our heart out, we made our way to the Asian supermarket, which is attached in the same plaza as Wei Wei. If you’re feeling like you’re in a rut in terms of finding places where to shoot in Grand Rapids, try places you normally wouldn’t think to use — like a grocery store.

I shot a BFF session at a grocery store about a year ago at a Meijer. To be honest, this set of photos is one of the most liked sessions on my Instagram. Sometimes, you don’t need an elaborate backdrop and your neighborhood Meijer will do.
